Where to honeymoon in the south?

Question: Where to honeymoon in the south?

(Posted by: lauren c on 2012-01-16 12:54:40)

Planning a honeymoon in late April... Want something different, so not Hawaii, Vegas, etc., but do want warmth, sunshine pool and quiet. I love rustic authentic settings so thinking the south, sleepy town, high desert and mountains, ranch etc., or possibly New Mexico. Specifically have been thinking about Texas, New Mexico, Georgia. I've contacted a travel agent, but would love suggestions from real people. Thanks! I should mention i want the setting to be rustic, but the hotel or b &b still need to be nice.

How about Williamsburg, Virginia? it will feel like a trip back to the 18th century. lot of authentically restored building. There are attraction like Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Center, Dewitt Wallace Gallery, Jamestown settlement and Yorktown.

I live in New Mexico and personally don't like it but I can see why people from other places would. it's different. there is a really nice town here called Ruidoso that has cabins with fireplaces and are really romantic if you want that instead of hotels. Ruidoso is a little town that's in the middle of the mountains. There are casinos and nice restaurants and horseback riding and carriage rides. And lots of areas to go for a nice romantic hike and usually right outside your cabin. There are also horse races if your into that. There are plenty of little shops also that sell unusual things and the best store of all called Misty Mountain! it's a little store that sells the best fudge and jelly's that you can sample all of them before you buy. lol. There are also plenty of lakes to just relax by or to go fishing. I would suggest that if you do choose Ruidoso to book a couple months in advance. This little town gets lots of tourists and the nice cabins are the first to go. I live about an hour from Ruidoso and that's our "go to " place when we want to get away from it all. with or with out the kids. good luck and congrats.

Florida? Or gulf shores in Alabama? (NOT Mississippi it's gross). SoCal?

I've been to the "hill-billy "/ "redneck " states and I hate it there, but I understand that some people would. If you happen to like places like that, check out Georgia. Texas isn't bad either. But I prefer Flo and SoCal.
