Question: Inexpensive honeymoon ideas?
(Posted by: Christine on 2007-12-28 11:37:04)
My fiance and I live in Chicago. We are looking for an inexpensive honeymoon. We need it to be either in driving distance, or we want to fly there but be in an area where we don't have to rent a car. Any ideas or reccomendations on places we could go? |

Cruises are relatively cheap, plus you have all the extras already paid for. There is so much to do on them too! Check out: cruises.com princess.com carnival.com Good luck :) |

Fly to Poconos in PA and stay on a ranch with a bed in breakfast. The Mountain lodge has everything from Tennis to skiin, and horseback riding everything is in the area or you can take a tour. Wishing you the best. |

Try a nice cabin in the woods. It's much more private and cozy than a hotel room and there are usually plenty of things to do in the area around the cabins. Here's a site for cabins in Northern Illinois: northernillinois.worldweb.com/ WheretoStay/ CabinsChaletsCottages/ |

I agree with the above poster, the Poconos are nice. Niagara Falls is also really pretty, but that's a little far. |

Go to a resort off season. Beach in the winter ski resort in the summer. Its so romantic to walk along a cold beach in you jackets snuggling close and most places have many restaurants and little shops within walking distance. Ski resorts are so beautiful in the summer with greenery and they have hiking or antiquing nearby choose one near you that has things nearby you and your fiance can enjoy together |

1) Go up to Door County, WI. Great rates during winter season. Or up to Kohler, WI, where they have a golf resort...it's just north of Milwaukee. 2) The week of your wedding...get on a website such as Travel Zoo and get a last minute package. 3) Impromptu is sexy...pack the bare necessities, pick a direction and start driving...explore together and each other! It's the trip...not the destination! |

I would look into going to Starved Rock. and its probably about an hour away from you (near lasalle/ peru IL area). the lodge is AWESOME and you could hang out there and be pampered (pool, bar, restaurant, lounge) or you could go hiking and look at the cool waterfalls and huge canyons. my fiance and i are actually getting married up there this summer. its a beautiful place with a TON to do on a limited budget. |

We're going to Vegas--4 nights under a grand...I think that's good....or you could just get away and rent a room in the city? |

Take a cruise!!! That's what we did and we loved it. Decadent dining, you could be formal or casual any time of day, there was dancing, beaches, swimming, games, etc. We spent one evening drinking martinis in our shorts in the fancy library playing Monopoly!! Yes, it was lame, but so what? It was our honeymoon and we were bonding! That's the great thing about a cruise, you can do literally whatever you want at any time of day! You can opt out of the shore exursions if they're too expensive and just walk around or go to beaches. |

Southern IL. It may not be the most exciting place, but there are things to do, like if you are having a honeymoon in the summer, there are beaches, and don't even have to park miles away like you do in Chicago. There's Giant City state park if you love cabins and camping. There's vineyards if you are a drinker ( I'm NOT a drinker really myself, but I did have a glass of wine at one of the vineyards once), there's a few museums, places to play pinball if you like pinball. And there's a place to play bocce. And there's horseback riding. For driving distance, depending on the part of southern IL is approx 300 miles. give or take some, from the Cook/ Will County borderline along I-57. But you WILL need to have a vehicle in southern IL as public transportation is either scarce or non-existant depending on where you're at. If you want to know more about southern IL, let me know. If you're a Superman fan there's Metropolis, which has a museum and Superman statue. Metropolis is along I-24. It's a small town that's not as exciting as a little further north of it. There are some cheap hotels/ motels to be in. |

My hubby and I went on an all inclusive vacation in the Bahamas at Sandals. It cost about 3K, but honestly, it wasn't worth it! It was our honeymoon and we spent all our time locked away in our hotel room anyway! Then we'd go out to eat. So just go somewhere where the hotel is awesome and private and there's good restaurants. |

We spent our honeymoon in NYC. We lived there so the expense of hotels was nil. Time was spent at museums, Broadway shows, Movies and rowing on Central Park Lake. Good for us and it would be nice for you too but it is expensive to stay anywhere. What I am suggesting to you is, go someplace in your immediate area and use your home as homebase. There are always places in our own backyards that we never get to see because we are always going somewhere else. Somewhere else is always the same as "here " only more expensive. No matter where you are, you are together. That's what counts. Just don't tell family and friends you're home. |
