Honeymoon travel question?

Question: Honeymoon travel question?

(Posted by: just me on 2008-02-08 11:36:44)

I've had a hell of a time dealing with my airline. They put the reservation under my fiancee's last name for both of us because I told them it was a honeymoon. However my name wont be changed on anything by then(passport, liscense ect) Will this be a problem? I can bring my marriage certificate? Is that all I need? Fizzy: Thats what I tried to do, but the airline told me they are not legally allowed to change the name on the ticket and the only way to do it is to cancel those tickets and re- book. My dad used his frequent flyer miles for this and if we try to re- book there may not be any seats left! plus we lose the 300 dollars in processing fees and such newbride, yeah I don't get it at all...I'm sure people change it all the time but they're saying changing a spelling is totally different than actually changing the last name

You need to call the airline ASAP to take care of that. They are soooo strict these days and look at everything before you can get on a plane and they don't listen to "excuses "!! If you call and get one ticket put in your name then you know for sure you will have no worries with it. you don't want to miss your plane on your honeymoon because the airlines made a stupid mistake. Good luck!

Yes you will need to bring your marriage certificate with you! The exact same thing happened to me. My passport had my maiden name on it, we got all the way to florida to get on a plane to the bahamas and everything had my married name on it. They were telling me that we wouldn't be able to go. I had to call the courthouse back home to fax the airline a copy of our marriage license. I was able to go after that, but bring it with you!

I would definitley call the airline about that.

That is going to be a problem, I guarantee it. Call the airline, tell them there was a misunderstanding, and you must have the tickets in your maiden name. Hotels, car rentals, etc. should be fine in either name, but airline tickets are a whole other story.

It will make it much, much easier to have your maiden name on your travel documents. The airline should be able to sort it out before you go. I'm having trouble believing that they said they cannot legally change the name on the ticket. I had to change the name on an airline ticket just last month because my stepmom-to-be spelled my last name sooo wrong when she bought the tickets. We both had to contact the airline together to sort it out, but it wasn't that big of a deal. If the airline really won't budge, take your marriage license with you.

Just take a copy of the marriage license with you when you go. This should suffice. If you are still worried call the airline and confirm that the marriage license will be enough.

This is definitely a problem. They won't let you board the plane without proper ID. Since your passport has your maiden name it won't help you to legally change your name after the wedding - unless your honeymoon is a month or more after your wedding date. I'm surprised that the airline won't let you change the name on the ticket. I'm not sure what their policy is on this but it sounds ridiculous. If it were me, I would keep calling or even visit the airline in person until you find someone who is more helpful. Only rebook as a last resort. Good luck!

Since they are the ones who put the wrong last name, they should definitely change it. I would call again and ask to speak to a supervisor.

You MUST get your ticket in your legal name that matches your passport. Do not bring your license and think that will be enough- IT WON'T. The airline should be able to do a name change for a fee, if they say they won't, ask for a supervisor and explain that it's their mistake in the first place. I can't stress this enough---- do not let this go. It must be changed. Anyone who says "just bring your license " doesn't know what they are talking about, and you will be left standing in the airport.
