Question: How to make our wedding/honeymoon special on a low budget?

My fiance is in the navy so we dont have a lot of time or money. We're "eloping " at a chapel and having our honeymoon at a motel... Any tips or advice are much appreciated, thanks!

My husband and I got married on a very small budget, so we went to the courthouse and instead of a reception, had dinner at a restaurant and then went home because I had to go back to work. so I understand wanting that special feeling! I made my day special by going and getting a pretty white dress (Not a wedding gown, but a knee length white dress). I had a little pretty bouquet to hold and had him wear a suit. I had a close friend take pictures of the whole thing (before the judge came in, during the vows, the kiss, and after wards of us together walking out hand in hand) and I later made a collage of all the pictures she took. You could also get a small wedding cake (You can get something very pretty decorated at somewhere as simple as a grocery store bakery) and when you go to the motel, bring a bottle of wine you love and light candles for a romantic feel. Just because you're on a budget doesn't mean it can't be a special day! Also, if you really feel like you want that big fancy wedding, why don't you save up and have a renewal of vows at some later date? It can be just the same as a wedding ceremony, but you'll be restating the vows you said (Or wanted to say) On your wedding day! Good luck and I hope your wedding day is great!

Make sure to wear a beautiful dress and take lots of photographs! It would be a shame to have such a romantic wedding story without any photos to show of it for your children one day. I'm not sure where the location is but find your nearest botanical garden, beachfront or very beautiful and natural spot and have someone take some great photos even if they are not "professional. " The biggest most important thing I could never have done without looking back was the photographs! Plus, you can then share the memories with anyone who would have wished to attend a wedding for you.

Just have a good time &make great memories. My hubby &I rented a house on the coast of Maine for a week - we took the first week of the fall "off " season so it was much more affordable.

Well, maybe you ought to start saving money on anything that you spend at home, this will help with the wedding. Make a budget, mint.com has an awesome budget tool. When you go shopping, take cash only, you'll be forced to spend only what you have. Do grocery shopping when you are full, not hungry (buy a lot less junk). For your honeymoon, do something that neither of you would never do regularly. Don't go on a typical cruise. Go fishing, or just go to a small town some where that is known for something special. Just do something different, and then it will be memorable.

Have wedding pictures taken by family and friends we received a beautiful wedding photo album from a family friend and she put together a photo album from pictures she took at our wedding by using disposal cameras and the pictures turn out wonderful. This was her gift to us and a very timeless gift it is.

Buy a white dress from any store of your choice or Davids Bridal= sometimes they have cheaper dresses. You don't always have to go white because this time of the year white dresses are hard to find at stores unless it is a wedding dress. Gather some of your favorite flowers from the florist and tie them together with a white ribbon or go to Party City and get a bouquet for $25.00 Have dinner at your favorite eatery. Get a small single cake or two tier cake from a bakery or if they are too expensive order one from the place you have dinner. ( I had a cake made 2 tier at a bakery and it was $90.00, depends on where you live and go) Ask for your guests to pay for their meal rather than give you a gift or money. It's not tacky if they understand and care. Keep the guest list minimum, close family and friends, no distant relatives or friends who only come out once and a while or call on holidays only. Get a friend to take the pics and videos. You can make a nice photobook on Mixbook.com. I made mine there and it came out awesome. For the honeymoon= it's just you two so make it romantic. You don't have to be fancy.Enjoy your time together and nature. Just focus on each other and don't spend money just because it's your honeymoon. Just enjoy each other, take lots of pictures, and remember it is about you and your fiance and no one else. Spend your money wisely. Don't worry about the little things that add up in the end like favors, accessories, decorations, etc..
