Can you ask for alimony after a South Carolina divorce?
At my divorce, the judge asked me if I wanted alimony. Before I could answer, my attorney said for me to answer 'no'. I told my attorney that I wanted alimony. She said that since I was getting a settlement that I would look greedy in front of the judge. She said I was taking a risk by looking greedy and I could lose half of my settlement by doing so. She advised me the best answer for my situation was to answer 'no'. So, I did. After the divorce, I had other divorced women to ask about my alimony. I told them that I was getting none and explained what my attorney advised. All of these women, got a settlements AND alimony. They said my attorney was wrong in advising me to answer no, after 20 years of marriage and three children.I have been divorced for one year and I want to know if I have any legal action that I can take.

South Carolina Divorce Law?
Do you still have to wait the mandatory year if you recently found out that your spouse had an affair? Why does one have to wait the one year, isn't that cruel in some cases? Shoudn't one be able to file for an immediate divorce?
South Carolina Divorce Final Hearing?
Hello everyone I was just wondering if anyone might be able to fill me in on what will actually take place during my final divorce hearing. I have filed on the grounds of adultery and the final hearing is on June 1st. The cheating spouse has already and legally admitted to everything but I still have to have a witness. Does anyone know what kind of questions they ask the witness? I'm probably way more nervous then I should be but I don't want anything to go wrong and leave me stuck married to my cheating, lying husband. Any info would be most appreciated. Thank you Thanks Craig...in SC, since I'm filing on the grounds of adultery, we only have to wait 90 days between filing with the court and requesting the final hearing. We don't have to worry about the 1 year apart thing. I'm mostly just curious as to what they'll ask the witness. I'd kind of like to give my witness a little heads up. Thanks for the response though
